Man, 2 dogs die in Gastonia house fire, officials say

GASTONIA, N.C. — A man and his two dogs died in a house fire in Gaston County Friday night, according to the Gaston County Fire Department.

It happened around 3:20 a.m. on Saturday morning, at a home on Davis Park Road. Family members identified the victim as 57-year-old Tim Herron.

They told Channel 9 that Herron had lived in the home for more than 10 years.

A person who was driving by reported the fire and stopped. They blew their horn to try to wake anyone who was inside, but no one came to the door.

Multiple fire departments responded to the fire and saw heavy fire coming through the roof. The fire was accidentally started, according to officials.

Crowders Mountain Fire and Rescue was the first department on the scene and was later joined by Union Road Volunteer, New Hope Volunteer, and Gastonia and Clover Fire Departments.

Shortly after coming onto the scene, firefighters found the man and his two dogs inside the house, where they were pronounced dead on the scene.

Firefighters say the identity of the man who died in the fire will not be released until his relatives have been informed. After their investigation, the department estimated the fire caused $150,000 worth of damage.
