Man accused in theft of nearly $2 million from App State

BOONE, N.C. — A man accused of laundering more than $1.9 million stolen from Appalachian State University appeared in a Charlotte federal courtroom Wednesday.

Prosecutors say money intended for the builder of Appalachian State's new Health Science College was instead transferred to the bank account of 31-year-old Ho Shin Lee, 31, of Los Angeles, when App State employees were tricked with a bogus email in 2016.
