HUNTERSVILLE, N.C.,None — Channel 9 found court records that reveal disturbing details of David Hamilton's history of mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse.

All of these details came to light after a strange series of break-ins four years ago at a house on Lake Norman.

In that house, Hamilton lived with his parents when they moved to the Charlotte area.

In June of 2007, years after they moved out, Hamilton sneaked back into the house several times in the middle of the night and made himself at home.

"He had done some laundry.  He'd washed his clothes, then taken a shower, made himself something to eat," said Lt. Todd Carver with the Iredell County Sheriff's Department.

Carver arrested Hamilton and two days later Hamilton's attorney filled out an order to have him examined at a state mental hospital.

After examination, Hamilton said he believed he is the Lamb of God and the Lord told him to enter the house.

Court records stated that Hamilton said he is a prophet on earth to lead a dual life as a prophet and general.

Court records show a series of diagnoses, including bipolar disorder, depression and schizophrenia.

When the case came to court in Statesville a year and a half later, Hamilton pled guilty and was put on probation for five years.

He was ordered to go to a treatment program and not violate any laws.  But in April, the Secret Service arrested Hamilton after he jumped the fence at the German Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Those charges would appear to be a clear violation of his probation, enough to send him to prison.

But the probation office in Charlotte told Channel 9 they had not re-arrested Hamilton because they were waiting for the case in Washington to wrap up first.

So Hamilton was free and back at home living with his parents in Huntersville when last week, police found them brutally murdered in that home.

Hamilton is now named the person of interest in the slayings.

"He definitely had some issues, but I wouldn't say I would have foretold this at all," said Carver.
