CHARLOTTE — Dionte McCracking, the man accused of shooting a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer Wednesday morning, will remain in jail without bond.
We’re learning new details about the suspect and the investigation after the officer-involved shooting in west Charlotte.
It happened in the early morning hours Wednesday on Enderly Road. CMPD got a call about a suspicious car, and the officer saw a masked man, believed to be McCracking, carrying a power tool near a damaged power line.
Channel 9 Crime Reporter Hunter Sáenz learned that McCracking got into a fight over a gun with the CMPD officer and then tried shooting him in the head. One bullet pierced the officer’s collar, narrowly missing his neck. The officer was hit in the right shoulder.

On Thursday, McCracking appeared virtually in court to face a judge for the first time after the shooting.
Prosecutors said investigators found three bullet casings at the scene. They then tracked McCracking to a home on Coronet Way, and investigators found a 9mm handgun inside. Prosecutors said a person connected to the home told investigators that it was the gun used in the shooting.
McCracking was arrested after an hours-long standoff at an apartment complex on Kings Ridge Drive.
The officer is expected to make a full recovery.
McCracking was ordered to be held without bond for the charges related to the shooting. He was given two separate $150,000 bonds on two separate burglary cases.
Before the shooting, McCracking was accused of breaking into the Drivetime Used Cars and Dutch Miller Kia on South Boulevard on Aug. 14. He allegedly stole keys and vehicles during those break-ins.
