LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A Lincoln man accused of shooting and killing his wife faced a judge Tuesday morning.
Just minutes after facing a judge on charges that he murdered his wife, one man apologized to Eyewitness News cameras for the crime.
Terry White is accused of shooting and killing his wife Saturday after she threatened to leave him.
On Tuesday, the victim's family told Eyewitness News they do not accept his apology.
The judge set no bond for Terry White, so he will remain behind bars for now.
Despite his apology, family members Tuesday said White should never leave jail.
White stopped to answer one question as he left court today.
"I am sorry it happened; I didn't mean to do it," he said.
That is not what the victim's daughter wanted to hear.
"He shouldn't have done it to my family and I don't want him to apologize to us," said the victim's daughter, Helen Coffey.
Coffey said Saturday she got a usual phone call from her mother Ruby White.
"She said I love you," said Coffey. Her mother then hung up.
Ruby White planned to break up with Terry White.
Coffey believes her mother knew the news would not be well received by her husband.
"She knew what was going to happen," said Coffey.
Sheriff's Department investigators said White shot his wife in the head with a shotgun then called 911 pleading for medical assistance.
Investigators said he then told the dispatcher he was going kill himself.
Officers subdued White with a Taser.
Eyewitness News spoke to other family members of Ruby White.
They said they are also not moved by the apology and the threats of suicide.
They said if he really loved her, he would have let her leave.
