CHINA GROVE, N.C. — A China Grove man was arrested Friday after police said he robbed a store, led them on a chase and then barricaded himself inside of a stranger's house.
They said James Jackson, 25, robbed a BP convenience store on U.S. 29. China Grove police said he ran from police for several minutes and then parked his car on the side of U.S. 29. Officers said he showed a weapon.
"He exited the vehicle displaying the weapon again," said Eddie Kluttz, China Grove chief of police.
An officer fired at Jackson, but he wasn't hit.
Investigators said Jackson abandoned his car and then kicked in the door of a nearby home.
Sherry McKinney rents the house on US 29 and Second Avenue, but she had left just a few hours earlier.
"I'm just glad that I wasn't here. You know, so that's the biggest thing," McKinney said.
Police said Jackson tried to barricade himself in the house for two hours, but eventually he came out and turned himself in.
McKinney came home and said she got a glimpse of what Jackson did inside her house.
"It's pretty tore up. He slept in my bed, pillows all over on my sofa. He drank a bottle of wine I had for my daughter's birthday today," McKinney said.
Police said Jackson was facing several charges Friday, including armed robbery and second-degree burglary.
