CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Eyewitness News is learning more about the man arrested in connection with a shooting at a north Charlotte nightclub. Harold Porter was arrested Tuesday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon for the shooting at club Label.
Officials in Cabell County, W.Va., said Porter has a long rap sheet. Prosecutors there said he was arrested in 2007 and accused of exchanging gunfire outside a restaurant, but he accepted a deal and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge. He ended up with five years of probation.
Eyewitness News reached out to the jail in West Virginia. They said Porter was arrested 12 times between 2004 and 2007.
Porter was arrested at a house in a south Charlotte neighborhood off Rea Road. Neighbors said they were surprised about his criminal past and that he was arrested in the area.
"There's never been an issue like this," said one neighbor who didn't want to share his name.
Porter is facing several charges, including communicating threats and false imprisonment. He had a bond hearing early Wednesday morning. Court officials said his bond for the ADW charge was set at $25,000.
He's slated to appear in court again later this month.
