LANCASTER, S.C. — Lancaster Sheriff's Deputies were called to Branch Street in Lancaster just before midnight Saturday for a report of a man who had been shot.

When they arrived, they said they found 40-year-old Joshua Flint McManus shot to death.  Deputies took 32-year-old Michael Brent Gay into custody without incident.  Gay is now charged with murder.

Neighbors we spoke with said this is a quiet, safe area, with nice homes and people, and they're shocked by the crime.  Channel 9 spoke with one family who was watching the ACC Championship game when they said they saw police cars blazing down the street.

One person Channel 9 spoke with didn't want to be identified, but said: "They got out and they looked like they were about to raid the house.  They had their guns pointed at it and everything."

Neighbors said the suspect lived there with an elderly woman, but weren't sure of their relation.  They said the two mostly kept to themselves.  But every neighbor we spoke with said they noticed a lot of activity at the home-- and a blue porch light that they would turn on at night.  One person told us, "there was always a bunch of cars going in and out."

Neighbors tell Channel 9 the victim did not live in the home.  We reached out to the Lancaster Sheriff for more details on the investigation and relationship between Gay and McManus.  They could not provide us with more details at this time.
