Man charged after threatening to kill magistrate in Burke Co., deputies say

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A man was charged in Burke County Thursday after he threatened to kill the magistrate who set a previous bond, deputies said.

Kenneth Buchanan, 30, was charged with threat to kill or inflict serious injury on an executive, legislative, or court officer.

Deputies said Buchanan was arrested earlier in April after he was pulled over and officers found methamphetamine in his car.

Officials took him to the magistrate’s office and said he was yelling that he would kill any officers that came to his house and said he would kill people in general.

According to authorities, Buchanan was put in the Burke County jail with a bail set at $100,000. On April 22, investigators said his bail was reduced to $10,000 and he made bond.

Deputies said less than 24 hours later, Buchanan was arrested again for threatening to kill the magistrate. When he was arrested, officers said he was smoking a meth pipe and that he could be facing additional charges.

Buchanan is now being held at the Burke County Jail with a bail set at $50,000.
