LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office arrested and charged Donald Joseph Wheeler III, 27, with burglary first degree and arson third degree. The investigation began when deputies were dispatched to 3251 Cedar Circle on Thursday around 5:30 a.m.
Upon arrival deputies found the mobile home engulfed in flames. Upon meeting with the homeowner, it was determined that the residence had been burglarized and that the fire had been intentionally started. Damage to the mobile home was estimated at $30,000.
Criminal Investigators and Crime Scene Investigators arrived on scene and began a detailed investigation.
At the conclusion of that investigation, investigators charged and arrested Wheeler. Around 20 firearms and other property stolen from the residence have been found by investigators during the course of the investigation.
Wheeler is currently incarcerated at the Lancaster County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
"First and foremost, I am thankful that no one was injured during this incident. Secondly, I am extremely pleased at how quickly our personnel came together and how well we worked together with other agencies to get this suspect into custody," said Sheriff Barry Faile.
