MATTHEWS, N.C. — The Matthews Police Department has charged a man in connection with a hit-and-run that seriously hurt one person.

Officers said they received a call on Sunday around 6:30 p.m. about a hit-and-run on E. Independence Boulevard near Sam Newell Road.

Investigators said a person was hit by a driver in a black Audi sedan which then left the scene traveling east.

The victim was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Police said Thursday the victim was still in critical condition.

Investigators said they were able to identify the driver a day later, and he was cooperating with them.
