CONCORD, N.C. — Police said a man left his dog in a car at a movie theater in Concord while he went inside to watch a movie Friday.
Moviegoers at the theater told Eyewitness News dogs should be left at home.
"Shouldn't do that. It's the same thing as leaving a kid in the car," said Karen Crainshaw.
"No animal or child or nothing should be left in a car," said Brandon Snead.
Police said Eugene Lawton left a pit bull in 80-degree heat Friday with the windows rolled up. Temperatures inside the car were soaring above 100. Police said the dog had absolutely no way of cooling itself down.
Val Panizzut said he has a dog and would board it before leaving it inside a car.
"Someone just shouldn't have an animal if they're going to do that. It's just not common sense like. Why would anyone leave a dog in a car?" Panizzut said.
Police say Lawton was not arrested but was issued a misdemeanor for cruelty to animals.
