Man dies from injuries sustained in two-car crash on April 11

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A man died Friday from injuries suffered in a two-car crash on April 11.

Police said Jimmy Hamilton, who was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer, collided with a 2003 Ford Expedition on Shamrock Drive near Farley Street. He died at Carolinas Medical Center-Main.

At the same time, the driver of the Ford Expedition, traveling east on Shamrock Drive, struck the front passenger side door of the Mitsubishi.

Investigators said Hamilton was traveling west on Shamrock Drive around 8:50 a.m. and ran off the roadway to the right at Farley Street. He then re-entered the roadway and crossed over the double yellow dividing line while rotating counter-clockwise.

Family members told Channel 9 that Hamilton had a 3-month-old son.

Investigators are still determining if speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
