CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A McDowell County man is facing murder charges related to the death of his girlfriend's toddler.
The little girl's mother told Marion police that her boyfriend, Christopher Edwards, was babysitting when she found her daughter unconscious Tuesday.
The girl, Lily Kerr, was taken to the hospital, where doctors said she was brain dead.
Police said she suffered head trauma.
Police upgraded Edwards' initial child abuse charges to murder after Kerr died Friday.
Edwards is being held with no bond.
