Man gets trapped in machine, dies at South Carolina plant

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — An investigation is underway after a man got trapped in a machine at a South Carolina manufacturing plant and died.

Anthony Dean Lemmons, 54, of Pacolet, died early Sunday from injuries suffered at an Innovative Fibers facility in Spartanburg, the Spartanburg County coroner’s office said.

“We are saddened to confirm the loss of a co-worker from a workplace incident,” the company said in a statement released to local news outlets.

“Production at the plant was stopped and is scheduled to resume at a later date,” the statement said.

Authorities said Lemmons got trapped in a machine around 1:15 a.m. Sunday and was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Innovative Fibers said it is committed to helping the South Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration as it investigates the death. The coroner’s office said a forensic exam was scheduled for Monday.
