GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A Gastonia man said a carjacker tried to steal his car and hit him in the head with a gun so hard the gun went off.
The incident happened before 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the driveway of a home on Boyce Street.
The 30-year-old came to visit the people in the home. The people inside said they heard a commotion outside. When they looked out, they said they saw Bryan Green, 24, holding a gun.
Green hit the man in the head with the pistol so hard that it caused the pistol to fire, police said.
The man gave up his wallet, cellphone and the keys to his car. The people in the home shut the door, watched through a keyhole and called 911.
Police said Green tried to get rid of the gun, but threw it onto the roof of a house.
A deputy saw him and they recovered the gun.
Starting at 5 p.m. on Eyewitness News, reporter Ken Lemon has more on some demands the victim refused to give in to even after he was pistol whipped and had a gun pointed at him.
