Matthews police search for smash-and-grab thief who stole $51K in jewelry from Kohl’s

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Someone walked into the Kohl’s department store in Matthews Friday night and smashed a glass display counter stealing about $51,000 worth of jewelry, police said.

The thief walked in the store at 9617 E. Independence Blvd., pulled out a hammer from his hoodie and broke the glass case.

The person, who appeared to be male, wore a wig and a baseball cap the first time he went into the store. He left and came back without the blonde wig and donning a different cap.

The person police are looking for is slim and has dark hair.

He was last seen in a silver 2011 four-door BMW with a Pennsylvania license plate LVG-9701 on Sam Newell Road.
