HUDSON, N.C.,None — Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield is already out of jail after turning himself in to police Thursday afternoon on a host of felony charges.
He said as he entered the police department in the town of Hudson that he plans on fighting the charges in court.
“Not guilty. That’s what we’re doing right now,” Mayfield said.
Earlier this week, a grand jury indicted Mayfield on four counts of felony larceny. He is accused of stealing four trailers from Anderson Trucking in Hudson last February.
The police chief said Thursday that officers spotted Mayfield and another man in a truck in the business’ parking lot on the night of the thefts.
Late last year, investigators recovered some of the stolen furniture from Mayfield’s home in Catawba County.
The former NASCAR driver said, despite the new charges, he continues to get a lot of support from family and friends.
“We are doing good. We are holding up. Everything is fine. (I’ve) got great people, great attorneys, great friends with us. We’re going to get through this and be as cooperative as we can with the DA and everybody in both counties and hop it all works out,” he said.
Mayfield also faces felony charges in Catawba County, where the property was discovered at his home.
He was given a $100,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to be back in court next month.
