CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Mayor Dan Clodfelter and other city leaders were at the Stonewall station Wednesday to mark the start of a project that will expand a Lynx light rail station.

Crews will start work on the expansion project so that it can eventually accommodate three-car trains.

The city said the project will allow CATS to be ready for more riders once the Blue Line Extension opens in 2017.

An $18 million federal grant will pay for the expansion project.
