CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Mecklenburg County commissioners designated Super Bowl Sunday as "One Carolina Day" because they said the Carolina Panthers have instilled pride in the community since 1995.
The commissioners adopted an official resolution at their Tuesday meeting.
Mecklenburg County commissioner Matt Ridenhour sported his Carolina Panthers jersey uptown Tuesday while talking about the announcement.
The One Carolina motto has crossed the border into South Carolina as well.
Commissioners are asking all citizens to show their Panthers Pride on Sunday by wearing their black and blue and Panthers gear.
Lancaster County leaders went to a conference last week in Myrtle Beach to encourage all counties to proclaim Super Bowl Sunday as 'One Carolina Day.'
The Panthers have promoted the movement as "Two states, one team, one Carolina."
Outside Bank of America stadium fans were elated to hear about #OneCarolinaDay.
