Mecklenburg County District Attorney Andrew Murray is closer to becoming a U.S. attorney.
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously Thursday to consider Murray for the position.
He would take over as U.S. attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.
President Donald Trump announced Murray’s nomination in September.
