CHARLOTTE — Channel 9 has reported for months that communities in our area have seen protests for justice and better policing.

Channel 9 government reporter Joe Bruno and Charlotte Councilwoman Dimple Ajmera hosted a virtual town hall meeting Thursday with CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings and Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden.

McFadden and Jennings laid out ways they’ve worked to improve their departments since they took office.

During “Straight Talk on Police and Justice System Reform,” leaders answered community members' questions on police funding, mental health training and community relations.

“If we had a magic button to change everything, we would,” McFadden said. “But we’re simply always asking for help and helping us change this -- and knowing who we are. Come in and have a conversation with us and come and talk to us.”
