Overnight, officers booked Shirley Martin into the Mecklenburg County jail, where she was charged in the killing of 33-year-old Anthony Howie.
Police responded to a shooting call around 3:30 on Skyland Avenue and found Howie shot. He died at the scene.
Investigators said Howie was shot during a domestic altercation with Martin, who was his girlfriend.
Officers spotted Martin inside her car with two children shortly after the shooting and tried to pull her over.
Police said Martin refused to stop though, and drove to her house where she was arrested.
The two children were not hurt.
Martin was also charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse, failing to heed lights or sirens, fleeing and eluding and resisting a public officer.
