Police said it was not a random situation and the two people involved knew each other.
The man was inside of the house when he was shot. He was transported to Carolinas Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.
The suspect in the crime was arrested a short time later in the neighborhood, police said.
Police said they do not know the motive behind the shooting at this time.
No one else was inside the home at the time of the shooting. Family members who came out to the home were upset following the shooting.
Edna Kirkpatrick, a nearby resident, said she is used to hearing about crime in the surrounding area but not on this quiet street where a lot of elderly people live.
“I just pray for it, pray for something to change especially just all over in this community,” Kirkpatrick said.
CMPD officials said the case is still under investigation. If you have any information to share, call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
