Mint Hill residents complain about smelly water

MINT HILL, N.C. — Eyewitness News has new pictures of dark brown, smelly water coming from the taps in local homes.

Families in Mint Hill gathered on Monday night to try to get the water fixed.

It is a problem that many families said they have dealt with for years.

Many of those families spoke at Mint Hill Town Hall hoping Mecklenburg County will take over the water service instead of the current water company, Aqua North Carolina.

Those families showed pictures as they expressed their worries over the water that looks like root beer.

But for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities to take over they need the state to step in.

Right now, no one can get new water connections in the Goose Creek watershed area because of an endangered mussel.

Most residents all agreed they want that moratorium lifted.

After those residents spoke to the North Carolina Environmental Management Commission the commission told them public comments must be taken until March 31. Then, they will take the comments to the Water Allocation Commission.
