CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 63-year-old woman suffered facial fractures after being hit by a foul ball during a Major League Baseball game in Florida over the weekend.

Officials said the ball went through a gap in the protective netting during the Tampa Bay Rays’ game against the Chicago White Sox. The gap in the netting has since been covered.

MLB officials suggested teams add protective netting between dugouts for any field-level seats within 70 feet of home plate following last year’s rash of injuries.
