MONROE, N.C. — GM Nameplate in Monroe mainly manufactures decorative metal products for the auto industry but when auto-manufacturing plants shut down, managers wanted to do something to keep their employees working.

So, they started creating medical face shields for first responders.
“I was thinking, ‘What am I going to do for my employees?’” said Chris Doyle, with GM Nameplate. “I don’t want to lay them off for anytime. So, when we came up with the focus of this, everyone got really excited knowing we are going to help out with this pandemic and feel good about ourselves and something we can do locally.
