MONROE, N.C. — A Monroe paving company facing federal fraud and money laundering charges was just selected for a multimillion-dollar contract in the Carolinas.

Eyewitness News dug into the project and has the details.

Federal fraud indictments were first handed down against Boggs Paving last month.

On Monday, Eyewitness News learned the South Carolina Department of Transportation picked Boggs to help widen part of Interstate 26.

The Monroe company will take part of the $93 million set aside for the project.

The expansion will connect Interstate 26  with the port of Charleston.

Last week, the head of Boggs paving, Drew Boggs, three of his top executives and John Styx Cuthbertson pleaded not guilty in a Charlotte courtroom.

They all face fraud, conspiracy and money laundering charges.

Federal investigators said the men worked together to win federal and state contracts worth about $87 million.

Boggs Paving was also recently awarded a multimillion dollar contract to work on the Monroe airport.

The U.S. Department of Transportation told Eyewitness News it is allowing the company to continue work on all of its current projects.
