A Mooresville woman is accused of shaking an 8-month-old while she was watching the baby.
Police charged Candice Irvin, 30 with felony child abuse in the March 7 incident.
Authorities said Irvin called 911 saying the child was unconscious. When paramedics arrived, the child was conscious and appeared to be OK.
The parents took the child to an emergency room, where doctors said the boy had injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome, according to Rowan County Sheriff Capt. John Sifford.
Irvin was issued a $2,500 secured bond and has been released from the Rowan County Detention Center.
Investigators said the baby had a subdural hematoma on his brain and was taken to Levine Children’s Hospital, in Charlotte.
Doctors there said the injuries suffered would have resulted in unconsciousness.
