MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A 14-year-old boy from Mooresville received the gift of hearing Monday.

Jerico Givens has dealt with a serious hearing loss since birth and in the past six months, he's struggled to get a hearing aid to help.

Despite his challenges, Jerico has thrived as a successful football and basketball player.

He'll play as a freshman at Mooresville High School this year, and a school mentor, a guidance counselor from a middle school, reached out to Miracle Ear to help him.

Miracle Ear has gifted the teen brand new high-tech hearing aids, empowering him to thrive in the classroom and live out his dreams.

“His guidance counselor from the middle school in Mooresville reached out to me,” said Heather Burleson, of Miracle Ear. “She knew maybe there was a possibility I could give back, figure out how to get some help for Jerico."

His new hearing aids come with a lifetime of free maintenance.

“I want him to be able to live out his dreams of becoming an NFL star because that is what he wants to do,” his mother said.
