Mooresville's Shannon O'Hara advances on 'American Idol'

HOLLYWOOD — Mooresville's Shannon O'Hara said she has dreamed of competing on American Idol for as long as she can remember.

The 17-year-old nanny is now a serious threat in the national competition, which airs on Channel 9.

O'Hara performed on Sunday's show in Hollywood, California, singing "Up to the Mountain," written by Patty Griffin.

O'Hara survived the Sunday night cuts, and was told she is moving on to the next round.

"I can feel myself growing as an artist and I don't want that to end," O'Hara said on the show.

Up next for O'Hara is singing in front of a live audience.

She auditioned for American Idol in Asheville last August.
