A $6 million plan calls for 219 new spaces on city-owned property off Chipley Avenue.
A Charlotte City Council committee heard the plan Monday.
The Charlotte Observer reported that the project aims to offset an upcoming loss of parking spaces.
Redevelopment of the Park Expo Center next door will eliminate 2,000 spaces that are used for events at the coliseum.
