More than 3,000 lose power after Sunday snow flurries

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — At one point, more than 600 customers who live off Kuykendall Road were without power Sunday morning.

Duke Energy said fallen trees and limbs in the area caused the power outages.

Power has since been restored to all but one customer.

Residents said they lost power around 8:30 a.m., about the same time as some of the surrounding communities.

Throughout the day, crews worked on power lines around Providence Plantation, a community that sits between Providence Road and I-485 in south Charlotte.

In all, more than 3,000 Duke Energy customers were without power in Mecklenburg County.

“We boiled water on the burner on our barbeque for coffee and then we went out for lunch,” Natalie Hennebert said.
