CONCORD, N.C. — A 23-year-old Concord woman was charged Thursday with involuntarily manslaughter after her 3-month-old infant who died from asphyxiation due to co-sleeping with her, police said.

The child died on April 4.
The Cabarrus County Department of Social Services warned Kayla Joy Mitchell repeatedly to stop co-sleeping with her infant and other children, but she continued to do so, police said.
Mitchell was also charged with felony child abuse and is in jail under a $150,000 bond.
