CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An emotional mother said goodbye to her 1-year-old little boy Saturday.
Brittany Massey attended her son William Perry's home-going service. The little boy was killed in a hit-and-run crash one week ago.
"He was a cheerful little boy and he did a lot of peeping. You'd be sitting there watching TV. You look around, he's peeping around the door, trying to peep over the chairs and everything," said grandfather Charles Perry.
The boy was riding in the back seat of a car with his mother Brittany Massey and family friend Tony Gabriel near Sharon Amity and Albemarle Road last weekend.
Police said Oscar Garcia-Fuentes plowed into the car. William and Gabriel died.
Massey left the hospital for the first time Saturday since the crash to say goodbye to her son.
"She suffered broken ribs, a broken arm, collapsed lung, but so far things are looking up for her," said Anthony Boyce, William's uncle.
Family members have set up a fund for Brittany Massey to help her pay for expenses from the crash. Anyone interested in contributing can make a deposit at any Wells Fargo Bank.
