Navigating the Pandemic: Six small-business owners in Charlotte share their journeys

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Every small-business owner in the Charlotte region has a unique story in this shared challenge presented by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Every day brings a new obstacle: a government order that shifts operations or ends them altogether, a cash-flow crunch, a rush of canceled orders or — worst of all — the decision to lay off hard-working employees who have helped build the business.

And yet, there is optimism. There’s always optimism in this group, the foundation of North Carolina’s economy, totaling almost 30,000 businesses in the region and nearly 1 million across the state.
