CHARLOTTE — NC By Train’s new Rail & Ride Pass is making it easier for passengers traveling between Raleigh and Charlotte, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The pass provides connections to local public transit systems along the corridor at no additional cost.
The program connects rail travel with regional bus and light rail networks in participating municipalities. Participating transit partners include:
- GoTriangle
- GoRaleigh
- GoCary
- GoDurham
- Charlotte Area Transit System
Rail & Ride services do not include transit connections in Kannapolis or Salisbury.
To receive a pass, passengers must first purchase an NC By Train ticket for travel between Raleigh and Charlotte and submit their trip details through an online form to receive a code by email. Travelers using public transportation to reach their departure station and another system at their destination must submit the form separately for each mode to obtain codes for both legs of the journey.
In the Triangle region, pass redemption for GoTriangle and GoRaleigh requires downloading the UMO Mobility App, setting up an account, and selecting GoTriangle in the location settings. Passengers then enter their benefit code to generate a QR code and present it when boarding. Public transit systems operated by GoCary and GoDurham are fare-free.
For travel here in Charlotte, riders connect using the Charlotte Area Transit System local buses and LYNX light rail. Passengers must download the CATS-Pass App, select an adult day pass for local bus and LYNX service, and apply their email promo code at checkout to add the pass to their digital wallet.
