NC doing more than most states to stop spread of COVID-19, study says

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — A new study shows North Carolina is doing more than most states to stop the virus from spreading.

Wallethub ranked the state 45th on its list of fewest restrictions, so only a handful of states are doing more.

The study looked at things like what’s open and what’s not, and requirements like mask mandates.

Our partners at WLOS in Asheville asked a Western Carolina University professor about how that state’s restrictions tie into the economy’s struggles.

“What we can do is we can hope for the least damage to the economy and to society while still fighting the virus as best we can,” said Edward Lopez, an economics professor with WCU.

The study ranked South Carolina eighth for fewest restrictions.
