NCHP enforcing ‘click it or ticket' through weekend

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If you're hitting the roads this holiday weekend, you'll see extra police out there.

The statewide "Click It or Ticket" campaign started Monday. Drivers will see more police patrols on city roads and highways.

Drivers can be fined $171 for not wearing a seat belt and also fined for not wearing it correctly.

Reports show that November is one of the deadliest months for drivers not wearing seat belts.

"A lot of times when our troopers go to collisions involving those who have not been belted in, a lot of times it results in a very serious injury and even a fatality,” said Sgt. Michael Baker of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The campaign runs through Sunday.
