SHELBY, N.C. — A bridge in Rutherford County has now been dedicated to a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper who died in the line of duty.
NCDOT leaders dedicated the bridge on N.C. Highway 120 over U.S. 74 in Rutherford in honor of Master Trooper John S. Horton.

Master Trooper Horton served with the Highway Patrol for 15 years. He died in the line of duty on Jan. 3, 2022.
The dedication took place at Drury Dobbins Baptist Church in Shelby. N.C. House Speaker Tim Moore spoke at the event.
