Road crews checked all the plows and spreaders Thursday morning, along with their brining equipment.
In Catawba County alone, NCDOT has 20 trucks it uses during winter storms.
Last year, crews worked 12-hour shifts for two weeks straight after major storms hit the Carolinas.
“You want to make sure you’re ahead of the game. You definitely don’t want to be out here right before a storm trying to make sure everything is working. We want to make sure we are well prepared before anything does come,” said Billy Carpenter with NCDOT.
NCDOT says it has 1,800 tons of salt in storage bins south of Newton in case the area sees another bad winter.
