NCSHP: School bus, dump truck crash in Union County

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to an accident involving a school bus and a dump truck in Union County on Wednesday morning.

According to the NCSHP, the crash happened just before 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday on N.C. 218 near Christ Baptist Church in Monroe.

Channel 9 reached out to Union County Schools, which confirmed a bus was involved.

Troopers have not released information about the other cars involved.

According to Union County emergency responders, one person from the dump truck was injured, that person was airlifted from the scene.

A Channel 9 news crew at the scene saw the area near the crash taped off and a power pole knocked down.

Officers told our crew the dump truck driver was airlifted from the scene.

According to Union County Public Schools, the bus involved worked for Piedmont middle and high school students. At the time of the crash, six students were on the bus, and none of them were hurt. The bus driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries but will need treatment.
