ANSON COUNTY, N.C. — A new $44 million Anson Middle School is ready to welcome students, giving seventh and eighth-graders across Anson County access to upgraded classrooms, technology and learning spaces, with room already set aside for a future sixth-grade wing.
Takesha Wall wasted no time getting her seventh-grade science classroom ready for students on Monday.

“These kids are about to be doing some experiments. I’m excited,” Wall said.
“I’m so happy for our children,” Principal Arthur Jackson said. “They’re getting the best Anson County has to offer.”
The media center is the standout feature.
“We have a lounge area,” Jackson said. “We have a room we’re going to create into a green room. We also have a little broadcast room for podcasts, so the kids are going to get lots of exposure to different things.”
On Tuesday, the district welcomed all teachers and staff for its convocation.
It was also a celebration for the new school, which will serve students in Anson County for years to come.
Anson Middle School currently serves only seventh and eighth-graders, but there is a plan to expand.
There is land available to potentially build a sixth-grade wing.
District leaders said the $44 million project is its largest investment in decades, funded mostly by the state.
Wall, who is a former Anson Middle School student-turned-teacher, said it’s an opportunity for her students to leave their mark.
“They get to create their own legacy now,” Wall said.
