New budget could change how Charlotte handles minority and women-owned business contracts

CHARLOTTE — The new state budget requires the City of Charlotte to make changes to its business inclusion policy.

Charlotte City Council will vote Monday to remove provisions for minority- and women-owned businesses.

That means the City can no longer require minority- and women-owned businesses to get contracts associated with City businesses.

The City now plans to create a small business enterprise program focused on developing all small businesses and getting them to compete for City contracts.
