CHARLOTTE — After years of construction, the new entrance road heading into Charlotte Douglas International Airport is complete.
The airport opened the final portion of the new realigned Josh Birmingham Parkway on Saturday. It connects the Little Rock Road exit off Interstate 85 to North Josh Birmingham Parkway, giving motorists direct access to the terminal, parking lots and decks from I-85 and Wilkinson Boulevard.
The airport's new exit lanes allow drivers more options to connect to Charlotte's major roads, including Wilkinson Boulevard, I-85, I-77 or uptown Charlotte.

Airport officials said this will allow travelers to easily get to the terminal regardless of what direction they are coming from.
Construction for the $21 million airport entrance road began in 2012.
Officials still encourage drivers to follow the signs along the road, especially as they leave the terminal.
