CHARLOTTE — Starting Oct. 19, you could find it tougher to get airlines to compensate you if your flight is canceled or delayed.
New federal rules say 10 types of flight disruptions will no longer fall under the airline-controlled category.
They include:
- Cleaning a plane after a passenger dies
- Extreme weather damage
- Baggage system outages
- Cybersecurity attacks
- Government system shutdowns
- Overheated brakes
- Unscheduled maintenance
- Medical emergencies
- Unruly passengers
- Closures caused by volcanoes or wind
The new rules mean airlines won’t be forced to provide hotel accommodations or meal vouchers. But could choose to do so on a case-by-case basis.
