New grocer opens in former Harris Teeter in Albemarle

ALBEMARLE, N.C. — A new grocer has officially opened in the space of a former Harris Teeter in Albemarle.

The Chamber of Commerce was concerned about the impact of losing the store and dozens of jobs near downtown.

Harris Teeter said it wasn’t making enough money. On Thursday, Carlie C’s opened in its spot.

It is expected to employ about 60 people, including 25 full-time positions.

It will also receive $25,000 from the city every year for 10 years as part of its economic development incentive agreement.
