CHARLOTTE — The Big Apple is a popular destination for travelers catching a flight out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
Between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31 of this year, there were 45,183 total flights between the Charlotte airport and its top-20 destinations, ranked by departing flight count.
Three New York City-area airports accounted for almost 19% of those flights, according to data provided by CLT.
Combined totals for three airports in Florida accounted for another 15% of CLT’s top destinations for departing flights. Cities in the Carolinas also appear among the top destinations.

Charlotte Douglas is the sixth-busiest airport in the world ranked by passenger traffic — with an average of 1,424 arrivals and departures, and 118,636 people traveling to, from and through CLT each day.
That’s according to Airport Council International’s ranking for 2021, which showed a gain of 59.2% in the number of passengers at CLT over 2020 figures.
