CHARLOTTE — If you need a good excuse to crack open a cold one, a brewery in Charlotte is using its beer to help local animals.
NoDa Brewing Company’s Rescue Brew has raised about $150,000 for animal welfare groups, the company said Monday.
In June, the brewing company partnered up with the Humane Society of Charlotte, along with the Beautiful Together Animal Sanctuary and Hope Animal Rescue in Chapel Hill, to launch the fundraising campaign. The goal was to find one dog and one cat in each city to become the faces of a new special edition beer.

In total, the brewery’s photo contest raised a little over $102,000 for the Humane Society of Charlotte, while the Chapel Hill groups got about $48,000.
This Friday, the brewery will host its third Rescue Brew party at its North End location. They’ll unveil the sale of the 2023 Rescue Brew cans featuring the winning dogs and cats. For every pint of Rescue Brew Lager sold, the brewery will donate $1 to the local rescues organizations.
