CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Diversity and inclusion is not only about race. That was the message as the North Carolina Technology Association wrapped up its two-day, virtual Diversity and Inclusion in Tech Summit on Wednesday.
Raven Solomon, a professional speaker and author, led the event’s final keynote address. Solomon grew up in west Charlotte. Her work highlights generational differences in the workplace and looks at how to mend those gaps.

Each generation offers its own valuable qualities, she said. It’s important to recognize that as the workforce undergoes a major shift. Baby boomers are increasingly looking toward retirement. One of the youngest generations, Generation Z, will make up about one-third of the workforce by 2025.
“We must do everything that we possibly can to prepare for this very real skills gap that’s going to happen, and we have to make sure that we’re giving way for this institutional knowledge to be transferred,” Solomon said.
